"I need feminism because I want to be- am going to be a film director and 99% of the industry is male.
What the fuck does this even mean? The fact that 99% of the industry is male doesn’t mean shit. Also, don’t make up fucking statistics you fucking moron! Oh my fucking fuck fuckity fucking god! YOU ARE A FUCKING RETARD!
it means that an almost $90 billion (1) worldwide industry directed towards all genders is dominated by one. the actual percentage looks closer to 70% male, 30% female (2). regardless, this does not change the logical conclusion one should to come to from this: having one more female in the industry is a step towards equalizing this disparity.
Isn’t it more equal to allow both sides to do whatever they want? Having more of one kind of person in something isn’t a step towards equality. You defeated your own argument in one sentence.
the issue isn’t what either side wants to do, nobody is suggesting that here. the issue is that 51% of the world’s population is being represented by an industry made up of 70% men. i fail to see how i’ve defeated my own argument, as more women in the industry would allow for a more proportionate perspective of the world’s population.
It is an issue of what people want to do. If you want a proportionate perspective of the world’s population, it all depends on what side wants to do. Just face the fact, if more women even attempted to get into the industry, the stats would change. Nobody is stopping anyone. The 70% is representing the 51% because 70% of the industry is men! There’s no argument here! It’s entirely based on what people want. If this lady wants to make movies, go right the fuck ahead! Nothing except for her ideas of rejection are stopping her.
so then i fail to see why she needed to be called a “fucking retard” if we’re in agreement about these basic facts. she’s pointing out a major disparity and saying she will do her part to change that. that’s really the most simple conclusion to be made here, that and she thinks michael bay sucks, which really isn’t a minority opinion. if you want to deny there’s stereotyping or sexism in the industry, okay then. short of her coming out directly and stating “i pointed out the 99% because i meant to say that women are forced into non-creative roles”, there’s nothing more to be said here. wild assumptions like “her ideas of rejection are stopping her” have no place here, other than to say more about you than of her.
